Winner, weiner, chicken dinner...

Okay that totally does not rhyme, but you will understand the whole idea in a minute.

As I mentioned before, I participated in NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month)  for the month of November.  The challenge was to post to your blog every single solitary day of the month.  If you were able to achieve this you were entered into a drawing for random chance at a prize.  I WON SOMETHING!!!  This is what I won, which was donated by Phyllis Harland.

Now, let's see if I can keep it going through December.

Time for the weiner explanation...

A few years ago, we started a quest to replicate the awesome corn dogs that you get at the Fair (and also a search for Lemon Shake Ups, but that is for another post if anyone wants that one).  Success, both mouthwateringly wonderful recipes were found and if I keep this up the only thing we will go to the Fair to eat will be Pineapple Whip.

Trust me, this is the best corn dog recipe you are gonna find:

8 hot dogs
1 1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup cornmeal
5 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 eggs, slightly beaten
3/4 cup milk
wooden skewers

Mix all the dry ingredients, then add the eggs and milk.  Mix until smooth.  Let the batter sit for about 5 minutes.  Meanwhile skewer the hot dogs.  I pour the batter into a tall drinking glass for easier dipping.  Dip the dogs and deep fry in 350 F degree oil for about 3 to 5 minutes (until golden brown).  Gobble them all up with lots of mustard.

Sorry, I have nothing related to chicken dinner, but I do have another dog point.  Yesterday, my gal pals and I trekked off to Cincinnati (lamely humming the theme to WKRP in my head here) for a day of retail therapy.  We hit the Frontgate outlet which includes Frontgate, Grandinroad, Ballard Designs, and Territory Ahead.
Then we schlepped around Ikea, ate lunch there, and  ended the day at Jungle Jim's.  When does this begin to have anything to do with dogs?

At Frontgate, I got Jack a bone shaped pillow for him to carry around in delusional hopes that he would leave my shoes alone.

  1. I got one of those bones for free when I bought Gizmo his pet bed from Frontgate! My mom got one for her pup, Chloe, too! :)

Those are awesome bones, the dogs love them! :)

  2. First of all do you know how many times, I groan, growl and throw D's smelly socks at the screen every time I hear Guy say that?

Secondly congrats on Nanoblopomo win. I tried it twice, first time I failed miserably, the second time I made it but I didn't win a prize.

I'm going to try your corndog recipe. D loves them and made them once. I'm still looking for a way to make those blooming onions. We got the cutter thing from Wal-mart but it was too small for a good sized onion. Went downhill from there.
